Materials for Special Open Enrollment (April 22 thru May 3)

Hello CWA members,

Attached are the materials that were posted today on the homepage of the NJ Division of Pensions and Benefits website for the Special Open Enrollment period (Today, April 22, thru May 3) for the CWA Unity plans negotiated with the State.

Attached are the CWA Special Open Enrollment application; the plan design chart for all plans offered effective July 1, 2019 to CWA represented state employees; and the three separate and distinct member health contribution tables for the CWA Unity Direct (Horizon)/Freedom (Aetna) PPO plans, the tiered network plans (Omnia and Liberty,) and the HMO/High Deductible plans.

A few things to remember:

  • These materials only apply to active employees.
  • Please note that as of this moment the contribution charts are mislabeled as being “Percentage of Premium” when the charts for the CWA Unity PPOs and tiered network plans are actually percentage of salary. But when I tested it, the actual calculators appeared to be working correctly. We’ve asked the Division to correct this so members are not confused.
  • You can switch medical plans during the special open enrollment. You can not switch dental plans; add or drop medical, dental or Rx coverage; or add or drop dependents. Note: when certain “live-impacting” changes happen like death, birth, loss of other insurance coverage. divorce or marriage you can make changes any time during the year without having to wait for the next open enrollment period (Fall 2019) if you act within 60 days of the change/event.
  • Current CWA subscribers will be automatically transferred or remain in the same plan unless a CWA Open Enrollment Application is submitted with another plan selected.
  • CWA employees enrolled in NJ DIRECT15, 1525, 2030, or 2035 will be automatically transferred to the new CWA Unity DIRECT plan.
  • CWA employees enrolled in Aetna Freedom 15, 1525, 2030, or 2035 will be automatically transferred to the new CWA Unity Freedom plan.
  • CWA employees enrolled in a Tiered Network plan will remain in the plan in which they are currently enrolled.
  • CWA employees enrolled in an HMO will remain in the plan in which they are currently enrolled.
  • CWA employees enrolled in a HDHP will remain in the plan in which they are currently enrolled.
